SimRa Constance

Every cyclist is familiar with these situations: the road is getting narrow, tailgating, risky overtaking manoeuvres, a near-turning accident or abrupt evasion of an unexpected obstacle. The given traffic situation often plays a decisive role. Data is needed to better identify potential danger spots and increase cycling safety in Konstanz. These can be collected by anyone interested with the SimRa app. In this way, every recorded journey contributes to better cycling safety in Constance! The Technical University of Berlin and the Einstein Center Digital Future with the help of a data-saving smartphone app, where it is particularly dangerous for cyclists in the city. With this data, the researchers can then give specific recommendations for action to make cities more bicycle-friendly and safer. YouTube video on the project The SimRa dashboard provides an overview of all the data collected and the change from the previous week. In addition, detailed analysis maps of individual regions can be called up. In the Open Data Constance portal, the city provides a machine-readable data set about reported near misses in the Constance district. These events were recorded by citizens using the SimRa app. Note: The city of Konstanz did not collect the data, the author is the SimRa project. Due to the (still) small database, the findings are not representative and can only serve as an indication of possible danger spots.
