Potential Natural Vegetation, 2001

The PNV shows which Potential Natural Vegetation could develop in natural forestation. Human interventions that significantly alter hydrology, soil, etc. were not taken into account. The map is optimally used at a scale of 1:20,000. The map is suitable for landscape studies, ecosystem visions, etc., but less suitable for detailed studies (management plans, EIAs, ...). After all, the map was developed from the digital soil map and partly takes over its errors. In sea polders and polders in the brackish water area along the Scheldt, forest is not a climax and these areas were not colored.
