Marine Weather Dynamics and Impacts - Locations affected (number of events with impact) storm surges 1946-2020

The maps summarize the distribution of the different types of damage recorded along the regional coast in the period 1946-2020, during storm surges. In fact, the maps illustrate the localities that have been hit most frequently by storm surges and the type of damage suffered. The locations reported are those that occur most frequently in the reports (generally with more than 5 reports) while the various kinds of impact have been summarized in five categories: E: erosion of the beach and dune. I: submersion due to sea ingress. T : overflowing of canals and canal ports. D: damage to maritime and defense works. B: damage to bathing establishments and infrastructure. The data combine the information contained in the work 'Sea storms and their impacts on the coast in Emilia-Romagna 1946-2010' (published at https://ambiente.regione.emilia-romagna. it/it/geologia/pubblicazioni/libri/mareggiate-impatti-costa-Emilia-Romagna) with the data archived in the regional database called in_Storm from 2011 to 2020 (published at the address https://ambiente.regione.emilia-romagna. en/it/geologia/geologia/costa/pdf/mareggiate-e-impatti_al-2020_indicatori-e-tendenze_contributo-sgss-alla-smacc_macro3-4.pdf/view)

lineage The most reliable useful documents for impact analysis have been the technical reports of the Basin Technical Services operating on the coast, which have been drawn up since the 1990s and usually since the 2000s. The older event data are derived for mostly from the news, however also used to integrate data on recent events. For the reconstruction of the historical series of storm surge events and the characterization of the weather-marine conditions during the events with a strong coastal impact, data collected by various meteorological, wave and tidal station stations and analysis data of the large-scale meteorological conditions (synoptic ).
