Mobiscore per ha

The geodata layer 'mobiscore per ha' shows the final, total mobiscore per hectare cell within the Flemish Region as a score between 0 and 10. The Mobiscore is an sensitizing instrument that aims to make movers think about the possible environmental impact of relocations from their potential new home. The Mobiscore calculates the distance to various types of facilities in the area: shops and restaurants, childcare and schools, doctors and hospitals, sports and cultural infrastructure and public transport. The score takes into account the expected number of trips for specific facilities and the means of transport that an average Fleming would use for these trips. In addition, the Mobiscore takes into account the environmental costs (air pollution, traffic jams, noise nuisance, etc.) of that means of transport. The higher the Mobiscore of a certain location, the easier it is to reach certain clusters of facilities on foot or by bicycle, and therefore the more limited the mobility and environmental impact of homes in this neighbourhood. This information can be taken into account as one of the factors in the residential location decision process. The scores can be consulted via the website www.mobiscore.be The Mobiscore tool was updated in 2021, as well as some methodological adjustments in response to the evaluation of the first version. This geodata layer displays these updated and adjusted scores. All details about this adjustment are described in the technical report: Van Den Bergh Gitte (2021).
