In two situations in the province of North Brabant there is surface water abstraction for the public water supply. This concerns the Dammed Maas from which Dunea takes in water and the Amer from which Evides takes in water. Here, the quality of the surface water from which the extraction for human consumption takes place must be prevented from deteriorating. If a calamity occurs close to the intake point, closing in time is not always possible. That is why protection zones are set up in the Meuse River Basin Management Plan, within which additional protection is required. The zones for both intake points in North Brabant can be found in the Environmental Ordinance of the Province of North Brabant.
