This dataset contains all road sections from the National Roads File (NWB) on reference date 01-01-2002. The NWB Roads file is a digital geographical file of all roads in the Netherlands. Included are all roads managed by road authorities such as the national government, provinces, municipalities and water boards, but only insofar as they are provided with a street name or number. So separate footpaths and cycle paths and unpaved roads, if provided with a street name, are also included in the NWB-Wegen. If a road has separate lanes, which is especially the case with national roads, these are processed as separate road sections in the file. The NWB Roads database currently consists of more than 158,000 hectopoints and more than 1 million digitized road sections with a total length of almost 158,000 kilometers (2020 measurement). The NWB Roads file is updated monthly. As of 1 July 2020, the City Names and Town Names in the NWB are BAG Compliant. This means that the spelling of the names is written according to the official spelling. The Key Register of Addresses and Buildings (BAG) was introduced in 2009 and government agencies have a user obligation to use this registration when performing their duties. So is the NWB. Until now, the NWB used the NEN notation for places of residence and municipality names. The names were made unique and places of residence were written in capital letters. In the BAG it is possible that a place name with the same spelling occurs in different municipalities. This structure has been adopted in the NWB and is therefore the same as the BAG. To get used to this adjustment, a new column has been added to the NWB for the BAG spelling (column WPSNAAM). The place name according to the old spelling remains in the WPSNAMENEN column and has been moved to the last column. Eventually this last column (WPSNAMES) will disappear, the expiration date will be determined later. We therefore advise you to start using the WPSNAME column from 7/1/2020. More information and news about the NWB can be found at https://nationaalwegendossier.nl/ Representatives of municipalities, provinces, water boards and Rijkswaterstaat have started designing and organizing the collaboration around the NWB. In the context of this further development of the NWB, we would like to get in touch with you, the NWB user. We therefore ask you to send an email with your contact details to the following address: nwb@rws.nl
