Topographical Census Plans - 1981 Edition

The maps report the census sections and the inhabited localities, centers and nucleuses, identified during the General Population Censuses. Starting from the original topographical plans which were presented on different cartographic supports both as a basis and as a scale, drawn up by the Municipalities and validated by ISTAT, the limits were redrawn with homogeneous handwriting and on a single topographical basis. In the case of the topographic plans of the 1981 census, all the original delimitations have been reported, with "exploded" at a scale of 1:10,000 on C.T.R. for the major centres, while a selection of the delimitations was carried out for the topographic plans of the 1971 census. For the 1991 census, ISTAT proceeded to acquire in the computer through digitization from the C.T.R. 1:10.000, all the delimitations contained in the topographic plans; this makes it possible to connect the census statistical data to the various territorial delimitations in an automatic way. The topographic plans were drawn up by the Municipalities following the "Instructions for the formation of the Topographic Plan and for the ultrasound organization" issued by the Central Institute of Statistics.
