Wuppertal ATOM Feed Steep routes in the cycling network

The ATOM Feed download service for steep routes in the Wuppertal cycle network provides a data set for download that contains the steep sections of the Wuppertal cycle network categorized into 2 gradient levels (noticeable: 3% - 7%, difficult: greater than 7%) with a length of at least 500 m each. The Wuppertal cycle network includes the cycle paths in the city of Wuppertal that are signposted in accordance with the road traffic regulations, the locally signposted municipal cycle paths in the city of Wuppertal, including associated sections of cycle paths outside the Wuppertal city area, and the excerpt from the North Rhine-Westphalia cycle network relevant to Wuppertal. The data set was created on the occasion of the publication of the cycling data in the Wuppertal GeoPortal in the second quarter of 2015 in a partially automated process by intersecting the data from the cycling network with a digital terrain model. After the automatic determination of the steep routes, a few further sections were added based on expert local knowledge, which the cyclist perceives as relevant gradients. The data record is only continued after an explicit determination of the need for an update. The line elements contained in the data set are excerpts from the two data sets “Radwege Wuppertal” and “Radrouten Wuppertal”, which contain the complete cycling network of the city, represented by the central axes of the associated streets and paths. The data set for the steep stretches is therefore to be understood as a supplement to these two data sets. The ESRI shapefiles, KML and GeoJSON files provided as open data under the CC BY 4.0 license and accessed by the download service are updated weekly in an automated process.
