SMMS: Bathymetry (1960 to 2020)

Definition: "Bathymetry" refers to the measurement of the topographical shape of the bottom of a body of water. The term is also often - analogous to the word "topography" - used synonymously for the shape of the water bed. Bodies of water in this context are seas, rivers or closed inland waters. In the context of the SMMS project, bathymetric datasets are those that show the height distribution in the German Bight, including the estuary areas of the Ems, Weser and Elbe. Such a bathymetric model is always only valid for a certain period of time or point in time due to morphological activities of the water bottom. Data generation: The basis for bathymetric products are rasterized bathymetric models, which are created using the functional soil model, a data-based hindcast simulation model, using spatio-temporal interpolation methods from a database of sea and land surveys of various data types. A gridded bathymetric model with a resolution of 10 m is provided for the German Bight for the years 1960-2020. Product: A 10 m grid of the German Bight valid on 01.07. for the year, with the altitude stored at each grid node. The product is provided in GeoTiff format along with source maps (before and after, shapefiles).
