Setback - T10 baseline

It represents the baseline for the definition of the set-back areas as required by Article 8 of the Protocol for the "integrated management of coastal zones". The baseline corresponds to the upper winter high water level, calculated as a manual interpolation of data relating to the 'storm surge vulnerability' cartography, carried out as part of the Cadsealand and Micore projects. For this purpose it was assumed to use the vulnerability data referable to 10-year return periods, considered, on a historical basis, good indicators of the maximum winter sea level.

lineage The punctual data on vulnerability to storm surges (see metadata) were created following a statistical modeling approach: the effects produced by combined events of atmospheric surge, spring tide and run-up were analysed, calculated on transects perpendicular to the coast spaced from 250 to 500m. The interpolated data was compared with the information obtained from the "flood map" to verify that there were no inconsistencies and to give greater precision to the data. In natural areas, such as the mouth of the Reno river, where the coastal dynamics are very strong, It was decided to define the baseline taking into account the natural morphology considerably influenced by storm surge events, while in the river mouths, given the high vulnerability to combined river and sea flooding, greater importance was given to the widely detailed historical information in the " catalog of storms"
