Areas of use for hydrothermal heat generation

The topic provides an overview of the suitability of areas for heat generation using hydrothermal geothermal energy. A distinction is made between areas with favorable and possibly less favorable (usually additional use of heat pumps) geological conditions. According to the current state of knowledge, the greatest potential for hydrothermal heat generation lies in the Malm of the southern German Molasse Basin. The areas of use are based on an intersection of temperature maps of different depth levels with the depth of the Purbeck and Malm surfaces (limit criteria 40 and 70°C). The geometries of the usage areas are generalized and designed for a viewing scale of 1:250,000. The data set represents a basis for large-scale observations and does not replace detailed investigations.
