Number of aircraft licensed by the Luftfahrt-Bundesamt for traffic in Germany

Airplanes, helicopters, balloons, motor gliders or gliders are entered in the aircraft register by the Federal Aviation Office's traffic approval. The aircraft receive their registration number. German airplanes, helicopters, airships, motor gliders and manned balloons carry the federal flag and the letter D as a nationality mark and four further letters as a special identification (registration mark). The air sports associations are responsible for the approval of air sports equipment, such as ultralight aircraft and model airplanes.
