Aquaculture is the farming of fish, crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic organisms, such as algae and frogs. Breeding is carried out both in land-based fresh or brackish water systems, and in sea systems. The main types of aquaculture are as follows: - fish or fish farming - crustacean farming - shellfish farming, which in turn is divided into shellfish farming (clams) and mussel farming (mussels and oysters). farming of fish, crustaceans and molluscs in the natural valleys of the Po Delta. The Emilia-Romagna Region promotes aquaculture in order to reduce the collection of wild products, which are necessarily limited, and as an economic activity supplementing the incomes of farmers and fishermen. The Region has delegated to the Provinces the powers to issue authorizations for land-based aquaculture facilities. As far as installations in marine waters are concerned, the Region directly manages the release of state-owned maritime concessions.
