Marine Area Limits - Baseline (upper Adriatic)

The baseline corresponds to the low tide line along the coast, in particular the "normal baseline" is called the low tide line along the coast as indicated on the large-scale nautical charts officially recognized by the coastal State ( article 5 Montego Bay Convention), while in localities where the coastline is deeply indented and indented, or there is a fringe of islands along the coast in its immediate vicinity, the "straight baselines" method may be employed which connect appropriate points, the Convention (article 7) indicates specific criteria for drawing the baseline. Italy has adopted a system of baselines as defined in the Decree of the President of the Republic of 26 April 1977, n. 816 (in the Gazz. Uff., 9 November, n. 305), with which accession to the convention on the territorial sea and the contiguous zone was authorised, adopted in Geneva on 29 April 1958.

lineage On the basis of Presidential Decree 26/04/1977 No. 816 the straight base lines and the closure lines of the natural and historical bays were drawn, defined in the upper Adriatic by the following points: From Punta Sottile (45° 36', 30 - 13° 43', 15) to Faro di Punta Sdobba (45° 43', 30 -13° 34', 35) to Faro Banco Mula di Muggia (45° 39', 35 - 13° 26', 30) to Punta Tagliamento(45° 38', 00 - 13° 05', 90); From Punta Piave Vecchia lighthouse (45° 28', 65 - 12° 35', 05) to Punta della Maestra (44° 57', 50 - 12° 32', 80); From the left bank of the South Po di Gnocca branch (44° 47', 55 - 12° 24', 60) to the Foce Fiume Reno - right bank (44° 37', 45 - 12° 16 ', 80). As regards the normal baselines, the coastlines (low tide line) shown on the large-scale nautical charts (1:100,000) were used, which were provided to us by the Hydrographic Institute of the Italian Navy in digital format ( shape files).
