MaGIC Sheet 36 Siderno - Level 2,3,4 (RNDT Dataset) - Version 2.0

Representation of only the georeferenced map relating to the sheet considered, for the three levels described below:Level 2: Morphological Units (MU)They represent large units within which morphological traits (Level 3 EM) are grouped, even if different but whose predominance it is characterizing and indicative of certain geological processes or phenomena. Level 3: Morphobathymetric Elements (EM) They represent individual, physically distinct morphological elements that can be specifically associated with a precise geological process or, in some cases, with processes that cannot be determined on an exclusively morphobathymetric basis. In this case the genesis of the EM remains undefined. Level 4: Critical Points They represent one or more Level 3 EMs which, in the interpreter's opinion, indicate the existence of a risk, understood as a concrete possibility that, if a specific event should occur, it could harm people and/or infrastructures (even if it is impossible to specify the probability and in what times such an event could occur).

The critical points have also been identified according to the type and distribution (not homogeneous in the area) of seismic and sampling data collected in other scientific projects. They therefore report, in a non-exhaustive and complete manner, potentially critical situations worthy of attention. The map cannot be used for navigation. "]
lineage In the MAGIC project, on the basis of the acquisition and integration of Multi-Beam Echosounder (EMF) data relating to the external platform and upper slope areas of the Italian continental margins, the main geomorphological features of the seabed have been defined and represented, in particular those deriving from morpho-sedimentary dynamics that imply mobility and/or instability of the seabed and consequent situations of potential danger for the infrastructures and coastal areas. The representation of these elements is contained in the "Map of Geological Hazard Elements of the Italian Seas" elaborated for 72 Sheets. Four hierarchical levels of cartographic representation have been defined for each of the maps, each of which has specific representation criteria according to the scale and the morphobathymetric characteristics to be highlighted: Level 1: Physiographical Domains (DF) Level 2 : Morphological Units (UM) Level 3: Morphobathymetric Elements (EM) Level 4: Critical Points (PC) The activity carried out during the Project to define these levels concerned: • the definition of the interpretative and cartographic criteria to be adopted for the creation of the Sheets of the Map of Dangerous Elements of the Italian Seas;• the interpretation of the pre-existing EMF data and the creation of a preliminary cartography for 25 sheets;• the acquisition of EMF data in hitherto uncovered areas from data; • the interpretation of the newly acquired data for the completion of the 25 preliminary Sheets and the creation of the other 47 Sheets of the "Map of Geological Hazard Elements of the Italian Seas".
