Landfills former high potential redevelopment

Map showing the former landfills that have a high potential for redeveloping. What Are Former Landfills? These are landfills on which waste was dumped in the (distant) past up to and including 1996. As a result, the soil may have been contaminated. It is not always known how serious the pollution is. In general, the risks are low, so there is no need to remediate the soil. Information on redevelopment in 2016 Based on an analysis from 2016, approximately 150 former landfills are immediately suitable for redevelopment. The criteria of the analysis are given later in the text. The other 940 have already been redeveloped over time or found unsuitable. The intention of the province is that former landfills are included at an early stage in the decision-making processes of an area development. In this way we use our space in a smarter way. The suitability of the locations depends on the development plan and the environment of the landfill site. Various locations can be made suitable for solar energy, for example, or the installation of wind turbines, housing or business parks. Redevelopment of a former landfill site imposes new technical requirements on, for example: • the quality of the top layer • the load-bearing capacity • the drainage The measures for this also improve the environmental quality on and around these landfill sites. And that means environmental benefits. Criteria of the analysis in 2016 Former landfills with a high chance of redevelopment are located: - within an existing urban and village area (BSD) and the site is undeveloped, contains no infrastructure, open space or a site that is less capital-intensive than the Direct environment. Here, densification/redevelopment could take place in line with the environment - adjacent to BSD, undeveloped, no infrastructure, open space or a less capital intensive site. Here a development can take place in harmony with the environment - outside BSD in the building ribbons, corners, residual spaces, etc. that are not part of a contiguous open area to be preserved. Former landfills with a low chance of redevelopment are located: - under homes, businesses, infrastructure - in recreation area, park, Nature Network Netherlands (formerly EHS) - in open agricultural area
