Hydrothermal useful horizons of the deeper subsoil of Schleswig-Holstein

The map "Hydrothermal Use Horizons of the Deeper Subsoil of Schleswig-Holstein" contains data sets on the distribution of sandstone horizons of Dogger, Buntsandstein and Rhät for hydrothermal use in the deeper subsoil of Schleswig-Holstein that are worth investigating, as well as additional information on the quality of the data basis. Sandstone horizons of sufficient spread and thickness offer great potential for hydrothermal exploitation. Both the thickness and the porosity or permeability are important criteria for the assessment of the useful horizons. Due to the complex geological development in Schleswig-Holstein with regard to the various deposition conditions and diagenetic processes that have influenced the deposits, only partial areas are therefore important for hydrothermal use. Based on the trend of decreasing porosity with increasing depth, which can be derived from drilling, this representation only considers the sandstone horizons from at least 20 m thick to a depth of 2500 m below ground. Below this, the risk of encountering horizons with insufficient porosities and permeabilities is significantly greater. The sandstone horizons lie at different depths and can overlap on the map. Areas in which the database on the deeper underground in Schleswig-Holstein is particularly small are identified by a dot signature. Information on the properties of deep sandstone horizons, which represent potential hydrothermal useful horizons, could only be derived from a few boreholes, some of which were far apart, and are therefore uncertain.
