This data set provides historical city maps that cover today's city of Cologne and parts of the surrounding area. These are not large-scale cadastral and field maps, but city maps and overview maps. The city of Cologne did not always have the current size. The service therefore contains some maps that show formerly independent places that are now incorporated. The stock compiled in the service is not complete and will be expanded in the future. The basis for the service are scanned analogue city maps from around 1600. These maps were georeferenced and rectified to ensure that they geometrically match the current city map Compensation for inaccuracies, generalization effects, material distortion and scanner errors. The service is therefore intended for the content comparison. In order to achieve a meaningful chronology up to the present day, the service also contains younger city maps that have already been created digitally. If you want to print a historical city map, it makes sense to include the original data that has not been rectified use border design. The maps are freely usable under an open license.
