Geological heritage database - Punctual geosites

Georeferenced vector database containing information on the location and characteristics of places of particular geological and geomorphological interest, whose value is mainly scientific and landscape. These places form a corpus that can be defined as Geosites of the Emilia-Romagna Region and represent a part of the local geological heritage of the territory. They are represented by dots, as their territorial extension is limited. The identification of the geological assets took place with the preliminary analysis of the geological cartography, the study of the land and the filing of the geological object. The data collected and structured through the GIS provides information on the geographical location, on the geological characteristics, on the existing safeguards, in relation to all the surveyed areas, points and observation routes. The database also contains photographs, in-depth texts, possible uses, bibliographic indications and is continuously updated in relation to the evolution of knowledge, environmental dynamics and changes induced by human actions. The Geosites database constitutes the basic tool for identifying places that present aspects of rarity and uniqueness, where there are important testimonies of the geological and geomorphological history of the regional territory. It is a catalog that collects data relating to outcrops, morphologies, caves and springs which, during the surveys carried out by the Geological Survey, have returned particularly important and significant data from a scientific point of view.

lineage The data used to create the Geological Heritage database derive from a selection made on the author's originals on a scale of 1:10,000. The database contains data relating to outcrops and morphologies considered relevant from a geoscientific point of view, for which the following reasons of interest are recognized and described: stratigraphic, sedimentological, structural, geomorphological, hydrogeological, underground karst, epigean karst, mineralogical , paleontological, geohistorical, applied geological.
