Geologic drill data

The database of geological drilling includes the results of nearly 160,000 drillings. The drill results are from 150 years of geological exploration. The final depth of the deepest well is 1,888 meters. However, most of the drill data comes from hydrogeological and geotechnical survey drilling, most of which is less than 100 meters deep. Recently, many boreholes up to a maximum of 100 m have been sunk to use near-surface geothermal energy. Boreholes must be reported to the respective geological state office according to the deposit law and to the responsible mining authority according to the federal mining law (BBergG) from a final depth of more than 100 m. In addition, they are subject to the obligation to notify under the Water Resources Act (WHG). Since the 1980s, the analogue information of the drilling data on the location and depth, the so-called master and title data, as well as a coding of the geological layer descriptions, has been digitized. The drilling data is currently managed centrally in a database in GeODin format. The standardization for the description and documentation of the drilling data is based on the geology symbol key (State Office for Mining, Energy and Geology, Hanover, 4th edition). The logical structuring of the data is defined in the SEP3 digestion type, which is also suitable for implementation in the data acquisition software of various manufacturers.
