Responsible habitat types: In the Habitats Directive, the EU has specified certain habitats that each member state must maintain or, if necessary, restore. These habitat types (LRT) occur in different natural regions of the EU, called biogeographical regions. There are three such regions in Germany: the Atlantic, the continental and the Alpine region. Within these regions there are main distribution areas for some habitat types. When a country has a particularly high proportion of a habitat type, it has a high responsibility to conserve or restore that habitat type. These habitat types are then called responsibility habitat types. Each of the 231 habitat types has an EU code that is unique throughout Europe (four-digit number or letter combination in accordance with Annex I of the Habitats Directive). This contains distribution maps for the following LRT: - 1140 vegetation-free mudflats - 1160 sea arms and bays - 1170 reefs - 1210 annual flushing lines - 1220 perennial vegetation of the pebble beaches - 1230 rocky/steep coasts - 1310 swelling mudflats - 1320 silt grass stocks - 1330 salt marshes - 2110 primary dunes - 2120 white dunes - 2140 dunes with crowberry heather - 2150 dunes with common heather - 2170 dunes with creeping willows - 2190 damp dune valleys - 2320 inland dunes with crowberry - 6410 moor grass meadows - 6430 damp tall herb meadows - 6440 smut meadows - 651 0 lean lowland hay meadows - 7120 degrade high moors capable of renaturation - 7140 transitional/swinging grassland bogs - 7230 calcareous lowland bogs Collection scale: 1:5,000 The underlying geodata can be found in the data set biotope mapping. The background map of the distribution maps of the LRT is always identical and shows the following for orientation: - the outer borders of the state of Schleswig-Holstein and the district borders as gray lines - the border of the biogeographical regions in north-south alignment as dark gray lines - the land area - shown in white - with different shades of gray for marshes, higher and lower Geest - the sea areas, lakes and flowing waters - laid out in blue - the built-up areas of larger cities - laid out in dark gray - the areas of the respective protected goods - laid out in green ## Remarks The maps represent the state of knowledge of the distribution of the respective LRT according to the Habitats Directive at the time of the completion of the state-wide biotope mapping 2014 - 2020. The maps serve to visualize the area distribution in Schleswig-Holstein. The areas have been enlarged to improve visibility. The areas shown therefore do not correspond to the real area size of the biotopes.
