Digital terrain model NW grid width 0.25m - shading NE

A hillshade is the plastic representation of the landforms in a color or grayscale image. The spatial impression is created by lighting with an imaginary light source. The hd shading is the visualization of a high-resolution digital terrain model (DGM). One pixel in the hillshade image corresponds to 0.25 m x 0.25 m on the earth's surface. Objects such as buildings and vegetation are not shown because the DTM describes the natural terrain of the earth's surface. For the hd hillshade, the imaginary light source is in the northwest. A bump appears bright on the north-west slope and dark on the south-east slope. Layers are colored with medium lightness. This expresses how much the surface faces the light source. Using the DGM1 shading, the natural terrain can be represented very vividly. Possibilities of use are, for example, the merging with other basic and/or geospatial data (e.g. presentation with leisure information), as well as the superimposition with digital topographic maps or digital orthophotos to create a three-dimensional impression of the terrain. The data can also be used as a basis for spatial planning, geomorphological analyses, and the discovery of terrain structures of historical buildings (e.g. Roman roads or fortress walls). The hd shading is not available across the board for NRW. It is available for those parts of the country that have an airborne laser scanning point density of 4 points per square meter (see Metadata Information 'Points per square meter')
