Coastal defense works - 2014

The 'Catalogue of defense works' contains information relating to coastal protection present both at sea and in the hinterland of the Emilia-Romagna coast. These works have been erected over time by different bodies, in order to defend the beaches from erosion and the hinterland from flooding in the event of exceptional high tides.

lineage	the rigid defense structures present along the Emilia-Romagna coast and in the immediate hinterland were mapped on the basis of the AGEA Flight 2014 orthophotos. The coastal defense works were classified using as a reference the indications provided by the "Atlas of Italian beaches ” of the CNR (1985) and the 'Atlas of coastal development works' published by Apat (2007). The altimetric data was attributed, both to the emerged and submerged works, through the use of the LIDAR Topobathometric survey of 2012 by Eni s.p.a. and the 2012 bathymetric surveys of the Region, information relating to the length of the work, distance from the shore, opening width, etc. were obtained in a GIS environment. The database was subsequently implemented by the competent local authorities with information of a technical nature on the individual works (date of construction, materials, year of construction, year of dismantling, etc.).
