Coastal defense works - 1943-45

The 'Catalogue of defense works' contains information relating to coastal protection present both at sea and in the hinterland of the Emilia-Romagna coast. These works have been erected over time by different bodies, in order to defend the beaches from erosion and the hinterland from flooding in the event of exceptional high tides.

lineage	Not having an archive, even on paper, which would allow for the reconstruction of the location and typology of the works at sea, it was decided to map in the GIS environment, the rigid structures recognizable from aerial photos of the RAF flight relating to the year 1943-45 . The mapped works were classified on the basis of the indications provided by the CNR's "Atlas of Italian beaches" (1985).
