Archaeological Policy Map Haarlem

On 1 September 2007, the Archaeological Monuments Care Act (Wamz) came into force. Primary responsibility for the archaeological heritage has been decentralized and now lies at the municipal level. The entry into force of the Wamz, the changes in the archaeological system and the rich archaeological soil archive in Haarlem mean that it is now necessary to determine a municipal policy with regard to archaeological monument care. To implement the new statutory tasks, with the intention of taking care of the soil archive in a workable and efficient manner, an Archeology policy memorandum and an Archaeological Policy Map Haarlem have been drawn up. This makes it clear to all parties involved in which cases the archaeological heritage must be taken into account. The map shows areas where archaeological objects are likely to be found during excavation works. There are different categories. The category and size of the project determine whether archaeological research is mandatory. Per category (colour) the number of m2 and the depth of the work is stated, for which it is mandatory to provide an archaeological report.
