Dyke sections and bulkhead beam cubicles

This file contains dike sections and bulkhead beam houses located within the province of Groningen. Sections are passages through sleeper dikes at ground level. The province of Groningen focuses on the preservation and possible restoration of dykes of valuable landscape and cultural-historical value and the associated elements such as gullies, drinking floats, denominations and shot beam sheds. These mainly old sleeper dikes are characteristic of the Eemsdelta, the Oldambt and the Wadden coast area. The old dikes can be affected by agricultural use, in particular by leveling and the tearing of grassland. The filling up and closing of the gullies and drinking pods, and the breaking down of denominations and shot bar sheds, is also a loss of the characteristic value. To prevent this, the Provincial Environmental Ordinance 2016 has drawn up rules for the protection of the old dikes and the associated supporting elements. Bulkhead beam cubicles occur at the dikes in conjunction with the denominations, which can be closed off with the beams in the bulkhead beam cubicle when there is a threat of high water. This file is part of the following files: dikes, gullies and denominations.
