Interim Environmental Ordinance, Deep Groundwater Body

The Provincial Council of North Brabant has an obligation under the Water Framework Directive and the Groundwater Directive to protect groundwater that is suitable for the extraction of drinking water now and in the future. The unconventional extraction of hydrocarbons entails risks that threaten the quality of the groundwater used for drinking water extraction. Because the risks of these unconventional drilling for hydrocarbons are unknown and may be uncontrollable, it is necessary to protect groundwater bodies suitable for drinking water extraction for human consumption with a ban.
