Cultural-historical Main Structure: Archaeology, residential hills

Floods used to be a regular occurrence. That is why the first inhabitants from the Iron Age to the Middle Ages (2500 to 500 years ago) often built their farms on a residential mound or house mound. Characteristic of the medieval mound construction are the series of residential hills along peat rivers or newly constructed reclamation axes. The residential hills are often recognizable by a slight elevation in the landscape. Sometimes the elevation has been excavated or has subsided and the residential hill is only recognizable by the allotment.
