Greenports Underground Storage 1st Aquifer Package - 2014

This map shows the location of priority areas for the storage of water in the first aquifer for greenhouse horticulture and tree cultivation. The areas have been included in the Vision on Spatial Planning and Mobility for the Province of South Holland Due to the importance of a sustainable irrigation water supply in the greenports, underground storage in the first aquifer has priority over other forms of use in this part of the subsoil. It is possible to deviate from this prioritization if an integrated consideration has been made in a plan adopted by the municipality of underground and aboveground interests and space is created in that plan for another function in the first water-carrying package, such as heat and cold storage). The province wants municipalities with intensive greenhouse horticulture to reserve sufficient space in zoning plans for underground storage in the first aquifer. As an aid, the province has created an 'opportunity map for underground rainwater storage' for six concentration areas in the greenports.
