The flood of 1953 led to a disaster of unprecedented magnitude. Thousands of homes and farms were damaged, destroyed beyond repair or were completely washed away. From the end of 1953 hundreds of prefabricated 'gift houses' arose in various villages and towns. The gift homes came from Norway, Sweden, Austria, Denmark, Finland and France. In 2020, an inventory was made of the gift homes that still exist. The status of the houses was also examined.
