Flood Risk Directive - EU2020 Historic Floods

This dataset includes flood areas that have had significant negative impacts on human health, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activity. The EU Flood Risk Directive (Flood Risks Directive) asks Member States to carry out a preliminary flood risk assessment (Article 4). Part of this is a description of the floods that have occurred in the past and that have had significant negative effects. In this context, the report 'Flood risks in the Netherlands, 2018. Preliminary flood risk assessment and designation of areas with potentially significant flood risk in the context of the European Flood Risk Directive (Flood Risks Directive) 2nd cycle: 2016 – 2021' provides an overview of major floods occurring in the occurred in the past and which led to significant negative effects. These floods have often had great significance for the development of the water management infrastructure of the Netherlands.
