Steering vision - Available road network

This map forms the basis for tactical and operational measures in the field of regional traffic management. The through highways have a threefold function: handling through traffic through the province of Utrecht, connecting the province of Utrecht with the other parts of the country and connecting the various regions within the province. The regional connecting roads connect the various regions and larger centers within the province with the highway network. The urban connecting roads form the distribution rings for the cities of Utrecht and Amersfoort. The urban axes connect larger neighborhoods and city districts with each other. The supporting roads have an independent function as connecting or approach roads, but also as roads that offer (some) overflow capacity in case of congestion on parallel routes. Although the protected roads have a certain connecting function, they are in principle not suitable or intended to handle extra traffic when congestion occurs on parallel routes. The data has been supplemented in February 2021 with the N420 (Woerden) and the N484 (Vijfheerenlanden).
