1853 - Historical Land Use Vector Coverages - 2011 Edition (Polygons)

The regional territory is covered by the Austrian Topographic Map (scale 1:86.400) and, for a small portion, by the Topographic Map of the mainland States of His Majesty the King of Sardinia of 1853 (scale 1:50.000). The mosaic of the various cartographies was scanned at 1016 dots per inch, georeferenced through the recognition of trigonometric points and known points, finally subdivided according to the cut of the modern 1:50,000 sheets of the Military Geographical Institute. The legends of the various maps are quite similar and comparable to each other, the agricultural activity is identified through very detailed conventional signs. The strong detail of these topographic maps has allowed an interpretation of the conventional signs, in order to build a database of "historical" land use, with a legend built on three levels of the Corine Land Cover type, with a general criterion possible resemblance to that of the 2003 edition of Land use, to make the two products comparable. The 2011 edition also contains Valmarecchia, which since 29 July 2009 has been part of the regional territory.
