Environmental Ordinance- Bore Free Zone

In no-drill zones, clay layers protecting the underlying groundwater may not be pierced. This has been laid down in the Gelderland Provincial Environmental Ordinance (PmG). It is also prohibited to use the soil as an energy source (for example, for the storage of cold or hot water). The Provincial Executive may grant an exemption for this. The exemption regulations state that the clay layer may not be damaged and that the use of substances may not pollute the groundwater. In water extraction and groundwater protection areas, there is also a ban on the use of the soil as an energy source. No exemption can be issued for this. The province and its partners strive to protect groundwater as a source of drinking water supply. The update plan was adopted by the Provincial Council on March 31, 2021, the date of entry into force is April 16, 2021.
