EHS 2015, defensive (history)

The Ecological Main Structure (EHS) is a coherent structure of areas with a special natural quality. The EHS has been established as part of the Provincial Environmental Ordinance. This is updated annually. The ecological connections are also part of the established EHS. External organizations are also consulted during the update. The following databases have been used as a basis for the realization of the EHS: Top 10, the properties of the site management organizations (SBB, NMM, HDL), water companies and private forest owners, forest expansion and forest reserves, Natura 2000 areas and the agricultural areas that are delimited in the Provincial Nature Management Plan as an agricultural nature reserve and to be transformed into nature. A large part of the agricultural nature reserve lies outside the main ecological structure, but it does make an important contribution to the National Ecological Network. The military areas with natural values form a special designation. These areas are not part of the EHS, because these areas have a primary military function, but they are essential for the functioning of the EHS.
