Celtic fields

Drenthe is rich in so-called Celtic fields. These are honeycomb walled arable complexes from the Iron Age (ca. 600 BC - 2nd century AD). They can be found throughout the province, but are not always easy to locate. Archaeological consultancy RAAP has made an up-to-date map image of the stock of Drenthe's Celtic fields. For this purpose, the entire province has been scrutinized by means of an analysis of satellite images and the Current Height File Netherlands version 2 (AHN2).
