Archaeological Monuments Map (2014)

The Archaeological Monuments Map 2014 (AMK 2014) contains an overview in 2014 of archaeological sites in the Netherlands. Since 2014, the AMK is no longer maintained by the Cultural Heritage Agency of the Netherlands. The AMK 2014 can therefore be regarded as a static file. The map was developed in collaboration with the various provinces and municipal archaeologists. The sites were assessed on the criteria of quality, rarity, representativeness, ensemble value and experiential value. On the basis of these criteria, the sites have been classified into sites with archaeological value, high archaeological value and very high archaeological value. The legally protected monuments also fell under the latter category. The situation as presented in the AMK 2014 differs from the current situation. Since 2014, new archaeological sites have been added and existing sites have fallen into disrepair, become larger or smaller. In addition, there may also be valuable archaeological remains outside the sites on the AMK. For an up-to-date overview of the national monuments, including the archaeological national monuments, see the National Monuments dataset (https://nationaalgeoregister.nl/geonetwork/srv/eng/catalog.search#/metadata/eedd39d6-b427-4e11-90fd-f5054241c3a7).
