This table contains figures on the participation in lifelong learning of the population aged 15 to 75 (excluding the institutional population) in the Netherlands. The data can be broken down into various background characteristics such as gender, age, highest level of education achieved and labor market position (employed, unemployed and the non-labour force). It happens that people follow a formal and a non-formal education at the same time. These persons are counted in this table among those who follow a formal education. As a result, the number of people following non-formal education in this table is somewhat lower than the actual number of people following non-formal education. Due to changes in the research design and the EBB questionnaire, a revision of the figures for the 2021 reporting year was carried out in the first quarter of 2022. The figures for 2021 are not directly comparable with the previous reporting periods. In this table we see a break with previous years, especially in the figures on participation in non-formal education. A factor in this is that the EBB questionnaire has become personal, whereas previously respondents were asked about the situation for the entire family or household. Now everyone answers only for themselves and no longer for others. For the non-formal courses it appears that if they are reported by others, they are measured less well. Changes as of 17 May 2022: Due to changes in the research design and the questionnaire of the EBB, a revision of the figures for the 2021 reporting year has been made. Changes as of 14 November 2019: The education level figures in this table have been corrected for the period 2012 – 2018. This concerns a correction in the derivation of the education level of persons who have indicated that they have obtained a diploma abroad with a level comparable to the higher professional education programme.
