Continuous NAP - 20 m (depth) line

The continuous NAP -20 meter isobath is a simplification of the physical NAP -20 meter isobath. The physical or actual NAP -20 meter isobath is very erratic and can change under the influence of sand transport by currents and waves. That is why the continuous NAP -20 meter depth contour has been chosen. It is fixed in coordinates and does not change. The continuous NAP -20 meter line was already implemented for Zeeland in 1993 in the 'Beleidsplan Voordelta', which was also signed by LNV, and for the rest of the coast in the 'Regional Excavation Plan for the North Sea' in 2004 and in the 'Nota Ruimte' in 2005/6. In the Spatial Planning Policy Document, the term 'seaward boundary of the coastal foundation' has been attached to this. The location of the continuous NAP -20 meter isobath was established in consultation between V&W, LNV and VROM and recorded in coordinates in the "geopakhuis" at RWS North Sea. The NAP -20 meter was not chosen arbitrarily. In the Delta area and in at that depth the Wadden area merges with the submarine coastal slope into the flatter seabed. Locally this is somewhat complicated by ebb deltas and sandbanks, but it is a good choice as a boundary for the coastal system. In addition, based on the continuous NAP -20 meters isobath a line has been defined 2 km seaward of this to limit the large-scale sand extraction.
