Share of registered cars in %, by emission groups

As part of the approval process and motor vehicle taxation, the so-called emission classes are formed on the basis of the individual Euro levels and, in the case of commercial vehicles, are assigned to the respective pollutant classes due to the different limit value tables of various EC directives. The assignment is based on the applicable type approval legislation. In the case of formerly so-called group vehicles (II and III), the allocation is made to the next lower Euro level on the basis of the higher permissible limit values. These emission classes are further summarized in the vehicle registration statistics. For better understanding, these are given user-friendly terms such as e.g. "EURO 5".
