Notarial archives

All kinds of deeds can be found in the archives of the West Frisian notaries, such as wills, divisions of property and deeds of sale of real estate. Before 1800 people often went to the notary to make statements in the context of a court case. These so-called “certificates” are a rich source for historical and genealogical research. The Westfries Archief manages archives of civil-law notaries from the period 1552-1935.
