The forest cableways database was created in the 1980s by the nucleus of the Regional Forestry Corps responsible for the COR, the Regional Operations Center for the management of forest fires. In mountain rescue and fire extinguishing operations with the use of aircraft, the exact knowledge of the location of these real obstacles to flight is of fundamental importance, a source of serious risks precisely because of their poor visibility. The Regional Offices have no direct competence in the matter, reserving the law all responsibility to the individual owner of system regarding the administrative and signaling obligations of the cable. However, with this database, which has also been present in the WEB cartographic viewer for some time and which has over 700 plants (almost 600 still tense, and over 430 dangerous for flying), the Forest Management Service and AIB and the CFR intend to continue to put available to the public elements which, in addition to increasing the safety of those who move around the regional territory, can profitably be used from a technical-economic and historical point of view. The geometries are of the line type and are updated upon notification by forestry personnel. The associated database contains the relevant technical (diameter, type, etc.) and qualitative (state, flight exposure, etc.) elements.
