Natura 2000 areas (Environmental Vision 2016-2020)

This file contains Natura 2000 areas as established in the Environmental Vision for the Province of Groningen 2016-2020. An important part of the NNN is formed by the Natura 2000 areas. Natura 2000 is the name of a European network of natural areas with important flora and fauna, seen from a European perspective. Natura 2000 is aimed at sustainably protecting this flora and fauna. A management plan is drawn up by the competent authority for each Natura 2000 area, describing measures, management and monitoring. This is done in close consultation with owners, users and other authorities involved, such as municipalities, water boards and provinces. We are responsible for implementation and reporting for the Lieftinghsbroek, Zuidlaardermeergebied and Lauwersmeer areas. The areas of Leekstermeer and Drentsche Aa fall under the responsibility of the province of Drenthe. The national government is responsible for the North Sea coastal zone and the Wadden Sea.
