Wierden

This file contains the wierden located within the province of Groningen. The province of Groningen considers it important that the relief of wierden remains. The quality of these core characteristics can be affected by buildings and plants on and in the vicinity of these mounds. Agricultural use can flatten the relief of the mounds and affect the soil archive. In addition, deep drainage around the wierden poses a threat to the existing soil archive. Wierden are supplemented to restore the damaged appearance and to better protect the soil archive against erosion. Municipalities are expected to take into account the protection of the openness and relief of wierden in their zoning plans. Rules have been included in the 2016 provincial environmental ordinance to safeguard the open character of the wierden. This dataset is partly included in the Provincial Environmental Vision 2016-2020 and the Environmental Ordinance 2016.
