National Landscapes

The national government has designated 20 National Landscapes in the Spatial Planning Memorandum. Two of these are located in Fryslân: Southwest Fryslân and Northern Wouden. National Landscapes are areas with internationally rare or unique and nationally characteristic landscape qualities and associated special natural and recreational qualities. The aim is to preserve, sustainably manage and where possible enhance the scenic, cultural-historical and natural qualities of the Landscapes. In connection with this, the tourist significance should also increase.
